Oops, was that too much for an opening title?
Oh, well, I want to talk about how to build a culture that represents you and your business well.
At Vitality South, and our sister companies (Active DataComm, RYSE Software, and Wife Safe Solutions), we have five culture points. But they weren’t just things that we woke up and decided to make our culture one day.
These culture points were thought on and built on the basis of what we wanted our business to represent.
- Happy to Help: focusing on an excellent experience for our partners.
This means we don’t just help with what they ask, we dig deeper and solve the problems they didn’t realize they were having. It means we do the work with a smile on our face. It means we follow through.
- Own the Outcome: holding an emphasis on responsibility and accountability.
This means we follow things through to the end. We own up to our mistakes. We make them right.
- Learn and Grow Together: promoting continuous learning and collaboration.
We build each other up by learning from each other and sharing our skills and knowledge. We look to our peers and mentors for support and guidance to build one another up as frequently as we can.
- Grow our Clients: proactively helping our clients/partners improve, grow, and expand their businesses.
We aren’t in this to make a buck, we are in this to see businesses and our partners grow and succeed. This isn’t just for us, it is for everyone.
- No Skunking (Keep It Positive): maintaining a positive and constructive work environment.
We don’t let not-so-great moments bog us down. We get back up and keep going. Even if we are down, we make efforts to not take anyone else down with us.
As I stated earlier, these cultures don’t just happen. They require practice and presentation. If you are in a leadership position and the culture is not what you want, take a moment and reflect on your own personal standard of culture interaction.
Are you representing a “Happy to Help” attitude when your employees are asking a question yet again? Are you “Owning the Outcome” when something you promised falls through the cracks? Are you “Skunking” on your team because you aren’t having a good day?
These behaviors that we present as leaders (even if you aren’t in a leadership position) are what we are putting into our environment… that’s what is going to come out.
I encourage you today, do a personal audit of your leadership, attitude, and example you are giving in your business. Is it the culture you want?
Much love,
Dacey
